As we all know, a lot of people these days are getting married, engage, dating, and even break up with their loved ones. This is something normal as people crave other people’s companions.
Recently, there is a story that went viral on Facebook regarding relationships with a rich guy and a poor guy and that post got over 833 likes and 159 shares.
Original post:
When I was 23, I dated this guy who came from a well-to-do family. He was smart, handsome, sweet, and caring.
And he would often treat me to those fine dining restaurants, pamper me with luxury bags and jewellery.
A year later, I met this guy who was the complete opposite of him. This guy was my colleague. He was a temporary staff waiting for university and the sole breadwinner of his family.
His dad suffered from an illness and his mom was a housewife.
He was certainly not the kind of guy I want to date. He looked like a nerd and he was always in these shabby clothes and shoes. And he always carried this Army sling bag because he couldn’t afford to buy a bag. However, we became friends because he always helped me at work.
Whenever I feel down, I would confide in him. He was a great listener and would always offer good advice.
Eventually, I fell for him. And then I broke up with my rich bf because I wanted to be with this nerd.
A few months later, I confessed my feelings to this nerd and we started dating. He was a great boyfriend.
He would always offer to treat me to meals at foodcourts. Although the food didn’t taste as good as those fine dining restaurants, I honestly felt so much happier eating with him.
I realised I have never loved my rich bf. What I loved about my rich bf was his money and all the fine dining experience and luxury goods. If I had loved him, I wouldn’t have fallen for another guy.
I guess when you truly love someone, it doesn’t matter if he’s rich or poor. My dates with my nerdy bf consisted of having dinners at foodcourts and watching Youtube at home. Just having him by my side was enough for me. I already felt like I was the happiest girl in the world.
My nerdy bf couldn’t afford to buy me expensive gifts but he would always spend many days making handmade gifts for me. To me, these handmade gifts are worth a thousand times more than those luxury bags I received.
If I could go back in time, I would reject my rich bf when he pursued me.
I still feel very sorry for breaking his heart. But I’m really glad I have broken up with him. He certainly deserved someone better than me.
Fast forward to today, I’m currently living in a 3-room flat with my husband. My husband still looks like a nerd and he still carries his Army sling bag. We still enjoy eating at foodcourts and watching Youtube together and we are still very much in love.
Love or bread?
Always choose love.
