The Indian man was upset as the wife already gave birth to 5 daughters but he wanted a son. Few months back the wife was pregnant again, and this time he ripped open the stomach of his pregnant wife to find out if she was going to deliver a son.
According to New Indian Express, The husband has been arrested, and the wife who was rushed to the hospital by her family is still in critical condition.
This horror incident happened in Nekpur on Saturday evening( Sept 19). The husband named Pannalal slit the stomach of his wife, aged around 35, with a sharp-edged weapon to find out it was a male or female foetus.
His cruel and foolish act led to great physical and mental pain to his wife. Pannalal fondness for sons was strong, he was upset and disappointed when the wife gives birth to 5 daughters.
The wife’s brother told media, her brother-in-law always abused her sister due to the reason that she didn’t give birth to a son. According to him, her sister was 6 to 7 months pregnant and was severely injured by the husband and currently in a critical condition.
A plethora of social, cultural, and economic factors contribute to this trend. Where in India, a boy is widely viewed as an asset; a future breadwinner, and a caregiver who will look after his parents when they become old. A girl, on the other hand, is seen as a liability, as parents are often pressured to pay dowries when their daughters marry. Hopefully, authorities can raise awareness on this matter to avoid any more tragedy.
