How long do we need to end a cluster?

To date (Oct 14), we have 102 clusters ended. Among all, the biggest Covid-19 cluster that originated from the Sri Petaling tabligh gathering with 3,375 tested positive and 34 reported deaths. The first positive cases was detected on Mar 10. Ministry of Health ( MOH) declared the cluster ended Jul 8, which last for 121 days.

Then, Bukit Jalil immigration depot cluster with 653 people infected and 1 death recorded. The first recorded case of this cluster started May 21 and declared ended on Sep 8, which last 110 days.

Not long ago, we have Sivagangga cluster linked to owner of nasi kandar restaurant who returned from India. The first case started on Jul 28 with 45 individuals tested positive and declared ended on Sep 7, which last 42 days.

Tawar cluster started on Aug 13 and recorded with 92 positive cases, MOH declared ended the observation on Oct 12 took 61 days to ended the cluster.

According to SinChew, currently we have 23 clusters which originated from Sabah. Since Sep 20, we have 394 individuals tested positive after returned from Sabah.

“Among the infected cases, 228 (57.9%) returned from Sabah before Sep 27. While, 166 (42.1%) returned from Sabah after Sep 27. To date, 18,478 returnees from Sabah underwent swab test in the airport and mandatory to observe home quarantine,” said Health DG, Dr. Noor Hisham.

He also urged returnees from Sabah to wear pink wristband, downloaded MySejahtera application as the Health Assessment Tool (HAT) will be provided to Person Under Surveillance(PUS) for self-assessment during quarantine period.\
