Malaysian Influencer Sparks Backlash Over Birthday Party During CMCO

Malaysian Influencer, Qiu Wen with 655k followers in IG posted photo and video of her 24-year-old birthday celebration on Oct 14, BUT Selangor, Putrajaya and KL started CMCO on the same day too. The influencer and her friends who attended the birthday gathering have been criticised for their irresponsible act, defying CMCO.

The birthday girl can be seen in a lovely dusty pink gown and the party was decorated with candy colour balloon and butterfly theme.

In the photo uploaded by one of her bestie, more than 20 person can be seen attended her party including her boyfriend Lim ShangJin, some local youtubers and influencers. The attendees can be seen not wearing face masks and with no social distancing in practise.

Malaysia entering third wave of Covid-19 pandemic with authorities trying to halt the spread of the virus. Thus CMCO was announced on Oct 12 and will be enforced in the red zones started from Oct 14 for 2 weeks. Social gatherings such as weddings and birthday parties are not allowed.

According to China Press, netizens outraged over their irresponsible act, with some commented,” OMG, they don’t know they can’t have birthday gathering now?” , other said,” Please just stay at home, practise social distancing and don’t learn from these influencer.” A netizen posted a chart for no.of Covid cases on Oct 15 and said,” Social responsibility?”

Public figures shoulder more social responsibility as they are often public idols, and their words and deeds play an exemplary role.
