A California hospital has carried out a successful heart transplant operation after the helicopter carrying the donated organ crashed on landing, reported by BBC.
The incident happened in University of Southern California’s Keck Hospital in Los Angeles, on last Friday. The helicopter ambulance was said losing control for a few seconds as the pilot tried to land on the rooftop at Hospital in California, however, it veered off and landed at the edge and fell on its side.
The three people in the helicopter at the time survived the crash, with the pilot sustaining only minor injuries and two passengers walking away without treatment.
The firefighters managed to retrieve the organ, and pass to a medical staff but somehow he tripped over and dropped it, before it was picked up again and rushed inside.
A hospital spokesperson told news agency the patient was doing well.
“The heart itself was fine after being dropped,” the spokesperson said.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
