Syed Saddiq, the former minister for youth and sports putting his hair on the line to raise funds for less fortunate students in Muar, the constituency in which the 28-year-old serves in.
He took social media to share his fundraiser program named “One Family, One Laptop”. Raising RM200,000 for 100 laptops, Syed declared on Dec 26 that he will be participating in the #BotakChallenge, shaving his head if the target is hit within five days.
He also shared a teaser of him with his head shaved on social media.
They managed to collect RM61, 410.00 within 24 hours of #BotakChallenge. While in In 48 hours ++, they have successfully reached RM144, 760.00!
He updated on Facebook on Dec 29, “In 4 days, we have collected RM185, 960 for Muar students who are having a hard time and need help.”
In an of his IG post dated Dec 27, he said that he is aiming to give out a total of 500 laptops to 500 families in need by the end of 2021.
As of Dec 30, 7 pm #BotakChallenge campaign ended and he managed to raise RM383,000 close to 2 times his target. He shaved his head in Astro Awani’s live show.
For those with household income less than RM1,500 with children in secondary school, university and college are eligible to apply.
Most netizens praised him for his initiative to help school kids to equip themselves with a laptop. Especially during the pandemic where schools are closed and school kids need to attend online classes.
