Chan Peng Soon, one of our national badminton players has revealed that he is suffering from facial paralysis. Oh no ~~~
In an Instagram video posted by the mixed doubles national shuttler, Peng Soon the left side of his face appeared to be affected.
“I have facial paralysis, there was no feeling at one side and i couldn’t close my left eye completely!” said Peng Soon in slightly slurred speech while pointing to his face in the video.
He further explained that he was already facing this issue for the past few days when he was at BWF World Tour Finals, Guangzhou, China. Thus, he didn’t perform well at the Finals because he felt his face stiffen during the match.
“Because I can’t close my left eye, beads of sweat would drip into my eye, affecting my vision. It felt really uncomfortable.” he added.
When contacted, his doubles partner Goh Liu Ying said Peng Soon wanted to play on against the South Korean pair Seo Jung-jae-Chae Yujung although he was in pain. “He could not close his eyes and I kept asking him to stop playing but he just wanted to finish the match,” said Liu Ying.
He went for acupuncture on Wednesday (Dec 11) after the opening group match but it did not help. However, Peng Soon already flew back to Malaysia to seek for medical help and he reassured everyone that he will go for treatment and do his best to recover.
“For now, his health is the utmost priority,” Liu Ying said.
The 2016 Rio Olympic Games silver medallists are currently ranked sixth in the world and definitely have a good chance to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games next year.
We pray for your speedy recovery , Peng Soon!
