Bored of the same colour on you car and planning to give it a brand new colour? But do you know that changing your vehicle colour is an offense and you can face up a fine?
Recently a Twitter user has went viral for sharing that a changing colour on vehicle without permission from JPJ can get you a fine. That post ha amassed over 5.4K retweets and 5.6K likes as this is new to most of us.
The post read as;
“Guys! Change vehicle’s colour without permission from JPJ, modify the exhaust and paste irrelevant stickers on the windshield will be awarded a summons. Please be careful.”
That post has left netizens in confusion as many didn’t know that changing vehicle’s colour is an offense.
And since the tweet has blown up, Road Transport Department Malaysia (JPJ) has come out with an explanation to clear the air. In their post on their official Facebook page, they have given out a guide on the procedure of changing your vehicle’s colour.
Step 1: Paint the vehicle first.
Step 2: Once it got painted, go to the JPJ office.
Step 3: If the vehicle is colored more than 1 colors, the most used color or dominant colour is considered the color of the vehicle.
Step 4: Fill up the JPJ K8 Form (vehicle details amendment) and hand over to the JPJ Officers on duty.
Step 5: Officers in charge will update the data in MySikap system.
Step 6: No charges apply.
Referring to Section (12) APJ 1987, every vehicle owner who changes color, should be given a “Notis Arah Periksa” or PG1. The notice is given so that the owner can informed JPJ every changes on vehicle color not summons due to changing color.
This vehicle color updates in the system are important so that if anything happens like an accident, the colour of the registered vehicle can be used as an reference.
