Our PM Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced that the National Higher Education Fund Corp (PTPTN) borrowers who graduated with first class honours from 2019 onwards are not required to repay their study loan.
A lot of netizen done their submission but still pending for feedback from PTPTN. But, this netizen is quite lucky! She submitted her application and the good news came 2 months later. She was given the loan waiver! And she took social media to share how to apply for PTPTN Waiver with 8 frequently asked question, and probably it’s your question too!
The post read:
Finally, I got it! Applying for PTPTN Waiver is not as hard as i think.
I done the submission on end May and knew the result of my application end July. I’m considered lucky as it only took me 2 months. I do have friends that applied for it but no news yet.
▼ The first 5 documents are mandatory, while the rest is according to relevancy.
The frequently asked question ( FAQ):
Q ① :The documents need to be sign/ stamp verified?
A ① :Different people telling me different story. But for me, i’m not working. So i have lesser documents to submit. Moreover my transcripts are all verified. So, i just submitted online. If you don’t feel like going back to your university you can try this way too. If you do have payslip, then you will need to verified it. In the nutshell, just follow whatever needed in the system.

Q ② :Can i apply before my graduation?
A ② :Yes. As long as you have all the documents. I strongly recommend you to apply before your graduation as your household income will be lesser ( you are not working yet) success rate will be higher.
Q ③ :PTPTN send me a letter for the installment amount after my graduation. Am i still eligible to apply?
A ③ :Yes, as long as it’s within a year after your graduation ( From the date of the graduation certificate).
* The documents i submitted ( I’m jobless now!) I also uploaded a few sponsorship documents for my scholarship.
Q ④ :What date should i fill in for tarikh konvo, senat ?
A ④ :That’s the date on your graduation cert.
Q ⑤ :How to get the supporting document for First class honour?
A ⑤ :In the case, it’s written in your graduation cert the you can just use your cert. Or else, you will be like me need to request from your Uni an additional letter for PTPTN waiver application purpose.
Q ⑥:I have a few loans, am i eligible for the waiver too?
A ⑥:As long as you have the Degree ( Sarjana Muda), never extended the course and courses are MQA verified.
Note from post author:
- Only degree holders are eligible for the application but not diploma foundation
- If you have a few loans. Just filled in the Id which is relevant
- First class : CGPA above 3.7
- Courses are MQA verified
- Application is within a year after the graduation date.
- At least wait for 2 months after the submission ( As you & i know the speed of our government department)
- Household income : Which means everyone in the family ( Your parents & siblings and best is below RM10k. Success rate is higher)
Q ⑦ :How long do i need to wait for the result?
A ⑦ :At least 2 months. You can follow up with the officer via call/ e-mail/ text message if it’s more than 2 months. But don’t expect they revert promptly ( PS: I read a post and someone said PTPTN responded faster via FB message)
Note from post author : Call to follow up in the case you never receive feedback for your application.
Q ⑧ :Do i need to mail the documents?
A ⑧ :No need. You can submit the documents online . I will suggest you to use camscanner to take picture and convert to pdf file, the images will be clearer.
▼ Q: I just graduated and pending for graduation convocation ceremony, and jobless still. Am i eligible to apply? as i noticed payslip needed.
A: I will suggest you to apply with necessary documents from University first. When you have a job then submit your payment slip.
Q: What if when i applied for the waiver i’m jobless and 2 months later i found a job?
A: It’s ok! Most importantly, is the moment when you applying for the waiver. If it took longer for the officer to review your documents. They might ask you to update the documents.
Q: When you are applying for the waiver. Are you paying the PTPTN or you are not paying?
A: Haven’t start the repayment. It’s ok not to pay on the first year.
