Just because he downloaded a scan app from Apple AppStore, he was paying RMB 8,000 (RM5,125) for the past 3 years.
Mr. Wang, a 60-year-old man residing in China, Hang zhou province is an iPhone user for many years. Since 2020 he downloaded an app – ScanGuru, a scanner app that will turn your phone into the powerful tiny scanner that fits in your pocket!
He just downloaded for trial but never subscribe the service. However, he had been auto-debited every month since July 12, 2020 to September 15,2023. For 3 years 2 months, amounting to RMB 8,000 ( RM5,125).
When Mr. Wang’s wife checked on the bills only she found out on the monthly deduction. When they asked further only they realised the deduction is for a subscription fee for an App.
To solve the matter, she contacted developer for Scan Guru – “GM UniverseApps Limited”. But the company told her the payment is fully in charged by Apple. If they wanted to do the refund, they must contact Apple instead.
Mrs. Wang contacted customer service of Apple hoping that they can get the refund. However, the customer service mentioned they can only trace back the transaction for the past 9 weeks. And Apple only agreed to return RMB 450 ( RM288). But this outcome isn’t satisfied her.
She is definitely not happy with the amount that Apple refunded. Thus, Mrs Wang lodged a complaint to the media. And the media also found in the AppStore comments they are not the only victim. Some people encounter the same problem as their account been auto-debited for subscription too.
To date Mr.Wang and his wife haven’t get fully refunded . Apple customer care and app developer haven’t responded to the said matter too. Probably more negotiation work needed to get things sorted.
