There was a tweet posted on August 2019, by a boy who repaired his own standing fan with its steps with a low budget that got more than 18K retweets and 19K likes.

If the standing fan in your house started to move slowly than how it was in the beginning, then you should definitely try out the following easy steps to repair the fan on your own.

Step 1: Open the ‘cage’ of the fan and remove the screw of the cover head until the front cover is fully open.

Step 2: Remove the oscillation pin which is used to stop the fan from moving around. For example, the type of fan shown in the picture, you can pull out the oscillation pin out. Some fans require you to open the screw inside so make sure before pulling it out.

Step 3: Make all the parts removed until you can see the capacitor (black box thing shown in the picture).

Step 4: You have to get the capacitor in any hardware or electronic shop. As for the type of fan of the boy, the value of the capacitor is 1.5 uF (micro-farad)

Step 5: You have to buy a capacitor according to the fan’s value or for a longer type of standing fan, you can buy a lesser value capacitor. The value of the capacitor bought by the boy was 2.0 uF. You’re advised not to buy a capacitor with higher value as long term motor can be damaged. You can get the capacitor for RM4 (2.0 uF).

Step 6: Since the capacitor is in the outer part, you can cut it out and attach the new capacitor.

Step 7: Use a black plastic tape for the wire. Stick it with the lead which can be bought for RM2 only.

Step 8: Screw and fix back all of items as usual.
