Chinese Vlogger Dies After Being Set On Fire by Ex-Husband During Livestream

A Vlogger in China has died after her ex-husband allegedly doused her in petrol and set her on fire while she was live-streaming.

The vlogger, known as Lamu, at her age of 30 had 885,000 social media followers and posted videos of her daily life foraging in the mountains, cooking and lip-syncing to songs dressed in traditional Tibetan clothing.

The ex-husband, with surname Tang, reportedly broke into the Lamu’s home on Sep 14, around 8.50pm armed with a knife and petrol. She was doused in petrol and set alight in the midst of her live broadcast, reported by South China Morning Post.

She was rushed to the People’s Hospital in the Aba Prefecture and transferred to the Sichuan Hospital on Sep 17 for better medical attention. 90% of her body was burned and she was left fighting for her life for more than two weeks and pronounced dead by doctors on Sep 30.

Police have arrested Lamu’s ex-husband, but his motives remain unclear.

According to Sohu, the suspect was believed seeking revenge on Lamu because she had initiated their divorce due to domestic violence. The couple had two young sons. But, police are yet to comment on the claims.

Lamu was a popular Tibetan vlogger who lived in the mountainous prefecture of Aba in western China’s Sichuan Province. In the last video featuring Lamu, uploaded on Sep14, she was performing to a traditional Tibetan song to express her best wishes to her fans.

On that night, she did her regular live-streaming suddenly had a black screen before her fans heard screams, reported Chong Qing Morning Post.

Lamu’s family said they had spent more than 60% of the donations on her treatment and would return the rest of the money to the fund-raising platform.
