Downloading App, Phone Is Hacked and RM13K Been Transferred With 6 Minutes

A scam syndicate advertised in social media promoting an app( application), but once you downloading it. They will be able to hack into your smart phone get your banking details, even your Transaction Authorisation Code (TAC) and transferred your fund within few minutes.

An admin executive who work in a car wash company downloading an app that can facilitate the payment  including the top-up phone credit, utilities bills and even paying for unifi, astro and many more. As advertised, the app act as a one-stop for bill payments with attractive cash rebate.

The victim, Mr Siew 33-year-old from Bangi, Selangor told media, ” I was attracted by the  advertisement in Facebook, as it’s convenient and with instant cash rebate, after spoke to their customer service and i downloaded the app. Just within 6 minutes, they transferred all my savings.”

 

Mr. Siew said he always need to top-up phone credit in the convenient store for their foreign workers. Thus, on Jan 12 he saw an advertisement on Facebook regarding the app, thought he can just top-up phone credits with the app.

He clicked into the advertisement and it lead him to chat with their customer service. Where he was told he do not need to pay a single cent using the app/ their service and he can enjoyed up to 8% rebate. It’s a instant cash rebate, for example, if he is paying RM100 with the 8% instant cash rebate he only need to pay RM92 instead.

He downloaded the app and he was required to register for the app by filling in information like name, phone number, email address, a group of login details.

“After i register the app, i tried to top-up phone credit for one of the foreign worker. I chose to reload the app via online bank transfer, the app then landed me on the bank interface where i required to login and after i done all the input it showed the transaction failed.”

 

He claimed he did enter the correct password. A few minutes later, he received a SMS with his bank TAC and right after that he received a SMS that RM3,515 been transferred from his bank. Following that, 5 transactions amounting RM13,000 ++ was transferred within 6 minutes.

He urged public not to simply believe in Facebook advertisement and only do bank transaction in secured and legitimate online app platform. He is hoping no one will be the next victim.
