During the pandemic, when we are heading out, we not only need to beware of the deadly virus but also the scammer!

A netizen, Ms. Cheah took social media to share her experience, and urged everyone not to fall into the trap where someone without uniform told you that you are violating the SOP and going to fine you!

Her post read:

If someone in his casual wear come to you and said : “You are violating SOP and i’m going to give you a summon.” Don’t fall into it as it’s definitely a TRAP!

This is what happened to me. Around 2pm when i was fuelling in Petrol station in Jalan Mxxxxxg. Everything was ok until i done fuelling and about to leave.

A man that claimed himself RELA chased my car and trying to stop me. If i didn’t brake on time and accidentally bang into, i’m sure he will said it’s my fault.

Then he asked me and my brother, who was in my passenger seat: ” Why you never stop when i stop you? Now you are violating SOP. You can’t have 2 person in one car. Now give me your IC and License, i will give you the summon and you will get it via post to your home address”

I felt something was not right as i just read in Facebook about 5 minutes ago that : If one was found violating SOP, the police officer will not discuss but to summon you straight. Moreover, it’s not the police badge/ ID that he showed me. Then we questioned him,” Why are you not in uniform ?” He then explained that the police authorised RELA to enforce the law.

And here is the highlight! He penned my information in a lined note book but not the proper summon that normally issued by PDRM. At the point of time, he was communicating with us in Malay.

Then i was telling him: ” You wait, let me call my dad.” Then he threaten us saying:” So, 1 person for RM1500, 2 person for RM3000.”Then i said: ” My dad is on the way now.” He trying his luck:” Or you want to settle under the table? See the the both of you are also Chinese then we just settle this lah!” Me replied:” I don’t have that much of money, i have to wait for my dad.”

Then he told me straight,” Just give me some under table money will do.” But i told him,” I really don’t have money, i wait for my dad.” Then he told me RM50 will do. I said,” I really don’t have money now. I spend all my money fuelling the petrol.”

Maybe waiting for too long ( actually it’s just been around 10 minutes), then he looked panic and said:” Ok, i will let you go since we are all Chinese!”

So, my conclusion:

If you really come across the same situation, please do not wind down the window to talk to stranger, especially not a crowded place. Or else, i couldn’t imagine what will happen. Somehow, we don’t know who are, a robber or scammer.

If you really bump into one, remember to take picture of them and their vehicle plate number ( mine is a sporty motorcycle).

Do not have a conversation with them, just tell them:” let’s talk about this in the police station and issued me a summon there!”

Reason being of my post is to increase awareness. Please do not criticised those who didn’t lodge a police report. Because when you are in panic, you probably forget to do so too! Please commented the post rationally! And be more alert when you head out.

▼ “When come across the incident, must be rational and don’t panic”,” The uncle must thought you are young girl so can conned you!”

▼ Some netizen also suggest,” Tell them your who so ever worked in Lawyer firm, will call and ask for opinion.” ,” You just cough non-stop, he will run away”

▼ One said,” Tell him you are senior police officer, ask the RELA to handed you his ID and tell him, he is fired.”

▼ Some also sharing that RELA cannot enforce the law and no rights to issue a summon.

▼ One suggested if officer in casual wear didn’t show their ID no need to bother about them.

▼ Some netizens suggested,” call police station”, ” Ask him which police officer authorised him. You call to police station to find out.”

▼ ” Thanks for your sharing!”
